Abba

Within those first three CD's, all tracks are presented in chronological order and clearly illustrate the development of the group from its early folk-influenced pop music through the disco era and beyond. Much of the music on the first two CD's is happy, cheerful music, reflecting the joy and pleasure they had in being together. Sad songs were a rarity in those days, though there were some - like Knowing me knowing you. When the strains in their relationships surfaced, sadder songs became a more significant part of their repertoire and this shows on the third CD - there are plenty here.

Among the album tracks, everybody (except those who are only interested in the hits) has their personal favorites. Some of mine (The piper, Why did it have to be me, Move on, Nina pretty ballerina) are not here but others (Another town another train, When I kissed the teacher, Dance while the music still goes on, The way old friends do) are here. I see other reviews in which others name their favorite omissions. I love those tracks too, but even four CD's cannot include everything. All the original albums (often with extra tracks) are available at a reasonable price and that is the only way to get all the great album tracks.

The final CD is devoted to rarities but is clearly designed to appeal to a much larger audience than Abba's die-hard fans - it isn't filled with boring alternate takes that are only slightly different from the standard versions. Some of these tracks have since become less rare - Put on a white sombrero and the folk medley have since been added as bonus tracks to re-mastered original albums - but it's still great to see these tracks here. There is clearly a need for a separate rarities compilation, perhaps even a whole boxed set, but this boxed set was designed for a mass market and succeeds brilliantly in that.

Die-hard fans will buy this box anyway, whatever reservations they may have. For everybody else, this is the ultimate Abba compilation.

Little known in 1972, ABBA released five singles before reaching International stardom. It all culminated in 1982 with more records sales then the Beatles. This 4-CD, 66 song Box Set is only for the true ABBA collector. Benny and Bjorn seem superhuman with their innate ability to write songs and perform a variety of instruments beautifully. Agnetha and Frida pull their own with vocal mixes and solos that defy most singers abilities. Al the songs are here and then some. Only the last disc seems a tad frivilous with a variety of mixes and little know versions of previously released songs. But who can blame them? It all seems like yesterday.

Diese 4 CD Box enthält alle Lieder, die man als gut ausgerüsteter ABBA Fan haben sollte. Neben den bekannten Liedern wie "Waterloo", "Mamma Mia", "Fernando" und "One of us" sind sämtliche B-Seiten der Singles vertreten. Zudem ein super Medley "ABBA undeleted" von rarem Material.
Wer also mehr als nur die bekannten Songs kennenlernen will, sollte auf jeden Fall diese CD kaufen. Es lohnt sich wirklich!

Dieses CD-Set besitze ich schon seit vielen Jahren und höre die Songs immer wieder gern. Für Abbafans und solche die es werden wollen, ist diese Box eine wahre Fundgrube. Enthalten sind wirklich sehr seltene Stücke wie z.B. der Titel "dream world", der in einer Passage des Songs doch sehr an Does your Mother know erinnert. Interessant klingt auch der Song Thank you for the music in der Version von Doris Day. Leider fehlt die komplette schwedische Version des Grnd-Prixtitels Waterloo.

Viele Bseiten, die in diesem Set enthalten sind, habe ich als Fan dieser Gruppe über Jahre gesucht.

Die beste Sammlung von ABBA-Songs, alle Hits, alle B-Seiten, bisher unveröffentlichte Stücke und alles digital remastered. Eine absolutes Muss für Fans und solche die es werden wollen!

Dabei fällt die zweite CD "More Abba Gold" der ersten gegenüber doch etwas ab, zwar haben Abba ein nahzu unschlagbares Talent gehabt, Popsongs zu schreiben, die wirklich groessten Hits findet man aber auf der "Gold". Dennoch sollte man die "More Gold nicht vernachlässigen, man kann hier wenigstes auch mal Neues von ABBA entdecken, das nicht jeder kennt. Aber letztendlich will wohl doch jeder nue Songs wie "Mamma mia" und The Winner Takes it all", also die absoluten Ohrwürmer der schwedischen Supertruppe.
