McShane's and Gash - a winning combination 5 von 5 Punkten
This is an amazing DVD loaded with all the first season of Lovejoy. 1) The Firefly Cage 2) The Axeman Cometh 2) The Sting
4) Friends, Romans and Enemies 5) The Judas Pair 6) To Sleep No More 7) The Real Thing 8) The March of Time 9)Death and Venice - Parts 1 & 2. Included is an interview with McShane (part 1) where he talks about Lovejoy. Gash's grungy divey was tamed by McShane and made him a wee bit more acceptable to telly viewers, but he retained the essence and often used many of Gash's story lines.
The whole cast is great, the series is created with loving care and BBC gives a great package at a super price. Not to be missed by McShane fans or fans of the series.

Neues aus dem Grronnzztal auf Megaluphon 3 von 5 Punkten
Wenn man Folgen wie diese oder auch "The Happiness Patrol" mit "Ghost Light" oder "The Curse of Fenric" vergleicht, ist es schon auffallend, was für einen großen Wandel Doctor Who in nur zwei Staffeln durchgemacht hat.
Der Doctor und Ace besuchen den Psycho-Zirkus in dem sie zusammen mit einer Reihe anderer Gefangener durch kleine Darbietungen um ihr Leben spielen.
Obwohl es hier sehr gute Ansätze gibt wie z. B. den Chef- Clown oder Captain Cook sind die anderen Charaktere wie zum Beispiel der deppige Junge mit dem BMX- Rad und die Gemüsefrau etwas sehr exotisch geraten. |

This is where Lovejoy really began to 'gel'. The characters were becoming more established and their ability to play off the other cast members really . These saw Witzend starting to take over production with BBC. They chanced from the poor quality film to a glossier warm look, more polish and professional. They came up with some really great episode. It starts off with Lovejoy Falling in love with Lady Jane's friend (the ever charming Johanna Lumley) and ends up with our loved rogues and lady in the Highlands.

So thrilled to add this to Collections 1 & 2 and eagerly awaiting Collection 4 next month (which are some of my fav episodes)
McShane just is perfect as the sexy divvy, with a shady characters, warm heart and a gleam for sussing out the hidden gem in grannie's attic. Great writing and directing sees these one great series.
For the Yanks - Akia puts out a multizone DVD play for a reasonable price. Check it out and you can enjoy Brit DVDs, too. Plays on your regular telly. Well worth the investment. |

A double-dip of a divey 5 von 5 Punkten
This is the second series of Lovejoy episodes. While the first still retained a heavy flavour of Gash's books, in series 2, McShane began to flesh out the dotty character and make it his own. I think these episodes are some of the best of the whole series. These were just so GOOD!

Farewell Lady Jane.... 5 von 5 Punkten
This series of Lovejoy says farewells to original cast members. First Lady Jane departs. Her marriage with Alex clearly at an end, she must leave Felsham Hall and put it up for sale. Charlie plays a bigger role in these episodes, buying Felsham Hall and becoming Lovejoy's landlord (again - he was in the early episodes). Caroline Langrishe is brought in to fill "Jane's" avoid, but doesn't quite pull it off. This permit more of a love interest between Lovejoy and Charlotte, head of an auction house. Shortly after Jane's departure, they brought in Beth, a darling character played by Diane Parish, but we soon see she is a "replacement" for Eric. Gone is the Eric-Lovejoy frustrated banter that was a joy to watch. Beth is adorable and funny, but Lovejoy has to be nice to her.
