The Prisoner is probably one of the most thought provoking series of all time, and Network DVD are to be congratulated on this excellent release.
The quality of the digitally restored footage makes this set a significant upgrade from previous offerings. Indeed the restoration of the alternate version of the first episode "Arrival" including Wilfred Joesphs' original score is a masterpiece. However, it is the additional material and in particular the documentary entitled "Don`t knock yourself out" that will propably generate the most interest. Network searched the globe to contact former members of cast and crew to get interviews. And the list of contributors makes for an impressive list: Production manager Bernard Williams, Director Don Chaffey, Producer David Tomblin, actors Peter Bowles, Fenella Fielding, who was The Village Voice, Leo McKern, Kenneth Griffith and many others, regrettably Patrick McGoohan is missing. The 200 + page book by Andrew Pixley and the feature-length documentary focus on the production of the show. Considering how long ago it was made, a surprising number of people are able to contribute to the film, sometimes by way of archive interviews.
The discs have very good menus, not often I enjoy a menu, and the extras are very comprehensive - including over half an hour of old cine film, a film-length "making of", alternate version with fascinating editing and score differences etc etc.
The quality of the DVDs and the packaging as well are extremly good, being a "Prisoner" fan myself for over 20 years, it's pleasing to know that the Prisoner is alive and well.
