Okay, aber da wär mehr drin gewesen 3 von 5 Punkten
Die Ausgangsidee (Vater findet sein totes Kind in Gestalt eines fremden Mädchens wieder) ist natürlich hochinteressant. Und wenn man Filme allein nach ihrem Spannungsfaktor beurteilen dürfte, gäbe ich hier gerne die Höchstwertung. Allerdings ärgert mich die Tatsache, dass der leibliche Vater von Audrey Rose beharrlich und stupide der Überzeugung ist, das mit der Reinkarnation sei doch alles Humbug. Wenn man als Regisseur es so offensichtlich sein lässt, dass Audrey Rose wirklich die Reinkarnation einer Toten ist, darf man keine Figur im Film so ignorant darstellen wie diesen Vater. Vielmehr hätte man beide Elternteile der Ansicht sein lassen müssen, dass das Unglaubliche wahr ist, und aus der daraus resultierenden Problematik ("Und wie gehen wir damit um ?") hätte man ein ernstzunehmendes Familiendrama machen können.
Wenigstens hat man Anthony Hopkins für die Hauptrolle genommen. Das macht wieder einiges gut.

There is a time in ones life when they are in need or at least are open to the concept of an invisible friend. However at a certain age this becomes an absurd idea and therefore the friend must leave. The concept has been put forth in many movies such as "The Curse of the Cat People" (1944), and books such as "Peter Pan" or "Mimsy Were the Borogroves" by Henry Kuttner and C.L. Moor,
which depicts a child's mindset as alien to those of humans.

Elizabeth As a child (Ashley Peldon) had her share of problems as a friend and also had her own supposedly imaginary-friend "Drop Dead Fred" (Rik Mayall). Of whom she was supposed to outgrow. She had a little help from her mother who locked Fred away in a Jack-in-the-box.
Now Elizabeth (Phoebe Cates) is once again having problems with a recent divorce along with many other disasters. She makes the strategic error of moving back home. She finds where Fred is confined and pretends to frees him; guess who she finds out is not imaginary and is still waiting as if time had not passed at all. This happens when one goes home again. Now Fred is appalled to find that Snot Face is all grown up and that she even did it like the pigeons. How ever Fred is just as mischievous, ornery, and destructive as ever.
It is up to the two codependent entities to help free each other from a static situation; Liz needs to grow up and Fred needs to move on the next kid. In the process Elizabeth meats a girl Natalie (Kelly Benson), that seems to be annoying the babysitter. And she claims it was "You know who".

Will Elizabeth finally take control of her life and out grow the need for Fred?
If so will she ever see him again?
The movie is worth it on different levels or diffident angles. We have the fun of the interacting and antics of Fred, Elisabeth and boogers. There is a true underlying psychological story that includes a trip through ones mind. And Phoebe is almost too cute and can make you forget what you are watching.

Viele von uns haben eine Stella 4 von 5 Punkten
Stella ist eine der Paraderollen von Bette Midler, die sie nahezu perfekt verkörpert. Man fühlt mit dieser warmherzigen und immer leicht, aber nie ganz, am Abgrund stehenden Frau einfach mit. Sie ist eine Glucke, die es gut mit ihrer Tochter meint, sie dann aber zumindest zum Teil loslassen muss. Dieser langsame Prozess des Loslassens, die Angst einen geliebten Menschen aus den Augen zu verlieren, wird in der Rolle von Stella glaubhaft und berührend verkörpert. Und sie schafft es. Viele von uns haben eine Stella zur Mutter, und wir sollten uns glücklich schätzen. Stella mit der exzellenten Schauspielerin Bette Midler ist ein empfehlenswerter Film, fließend erzählt, doch mit Tiefgang.

Eine ganz besondere Perle unter den Bette Midler Filmen und ich bin froh, das ich diesen Film besitze:
Manch ehrbarer Bürger in Watertown mag das anders sehen. Doch Stella Clair (Bette Midler) ist wirklich eine gute Mutter. Und das, obwohl die Ex Barschlampe ihre geliebte Tochter Jenny (Trini Alvarado) solo durchbringen muß... Kein Mann, kaum Kohle, dafür überall tratschende Nachbarn. Da taucht dann eines Tages Jenny`s reicher Daddy aus New York auf.
Er könnte tem Teenager eine völlig neue Welt eröffnen. Voher müßte Mutter allerdings ein paar Träume aufgeben....
Soviel zum Kurzinhalt... Stella wird ungewollt schwanger, und erst weiß sie nix mit dem kurzen Bündelchen was anzufangen, aber nach und nach entwickelt sich eine super Freundschaft zwischen den beiden. Ihre Mutterliebe ist so stark, das sie damit ihrer Tochter fast ihren ganzen Lebensweg verbaut... in letzter Sekunde kann Stella ihre Tochter retten, und ihr das Leben ermöglichen, welches ihr verwehrt geblieben ist, selbst, wenn sie selbst dafür auf der STrecke bleiben muß...
Das ist wahre Mutterliebe... hab bei dem Film ganz schlimm geweint, und meiner Meinung nach, ist das der beste Film mit Bette Midler, außer natürlich noch: Freundinnen (beaches) und die unglaubliche Entführung der verrückten MRS. STone...
also, wenn Ihr einen schönen unterhaltsamen Film mit viel Tiefgang haben möchtet, dann greift zu. Tolle Schauspieler, Tolle Story, herzergreifend... Taschentücher bereit halten,
